As orthodontics continue to evolve, there are now a couple of ways you can straighten your smile. Clear aligners are popular options because they are discreet trays that move teeth. Despite this, they aren’t the best for every misalignment. There are some instances where traditional braces may be better for your oral health. While having wires and brackets may not seem too desirable, here’s why they aren’t as bad as you think.
Why Can Traditional Braces Be Best in Some Cases?
One of the biggest upsides to traditional braces is how versatile they are. You can get them for mild to severe cases of crowding and crookedness. Using wires and brackets, you can feel confident knowing they will tackle your unique issue and give you the healthier bite you deserve without much trouble.
While clear aligners are effective in their own right, they aren’t the best for intense orthodontic issues. There may not be enough room for the movement needed, or they may be too complex for the plastic trays to handle on their own.
What Benefits Can You Get with Traditional Braces?
Although you might not be excited about getting traditional braces, they do have their own benefits. These are a few that you should keep in mind:
- You can’t remove them, so there’s no need to worry about taking them out when you are eating or drinking anything. With clear aligners, you can only have water while wearing them, and you must get the full 22-hour wear time, which can be tough to get to at first.
- There are other options aside from metal. You may not want a shiny look in your smile, but there are other options. Ceramic braces use tooth-colored materials that blend into your smile more easily. Not only that, but you can even get them placed on the backside of your teeth, so you don’t need to worry about them being overly visible.
- Braces are typically less expensive than clear aligners. Dental insurance may also cover a portion of your treatment, but this depends on your plan. Simply talk to your dentist’s front desk team to learn more about what’s true for you.
- Your results will give you the straighter smile you want. Millions have gotten braces and love their healthier bite, so you can feel confident knowing your time with them will be the same.
In the end, while clear aligners are a great option, braces might be better in some cases. By keeping an open mind, you can find out which one would help get you to the aligned grin that lets you feel your best.
